Campus programs
Campus programs are full time intensive programs provided at WELS's two campuses - Tottenham (primary and secondary) and Footscray (primary only). Students generally remain at a campus for six to nine months although some students may stay longer under special circumstances.
Classes After enrolment, students are grouped according to their level of English, age and prior schooling. Classes are kept small to ensure that students can receive the maximum amount of assistance from the teacher.
Teaching program The teaching program is carried out in English by qualified ESL teachers with experience in teaching classes with mixed ages, abilities, and cultural backgrounds. Bilingual assistance is available through Multicultural Education Aides (MEA's) who assist teachers in the classroom. Students receive intensive instruction and are exposed to a comprehensive curriculum aimed at preparing them for mainstream schooling (or alternative pathways through education, where appropriate) and life in Australian society.
Transition At the completion of the program most students exit to mainstream primary or secondary schools, although other pathways are available where appropriate. Students and their parents or guardians are provided with advice and assistance with transition by school personnel. For further information go to transition.
